Shoulder Sleeve Insignia.  Description:  On a Dark Blue shield shape device 3 1/4 inches (8.26 cm) in height and 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width overall with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) White border, seven Orange lightning flashes radiating from middle chief point fimbriated White superimposed in chief by an eagle’s wings expanded horizontally Or bearing a shield blazoned:  Sable, a mullet of four points Argent.   

        Symbolism:   The eagle embodies the strength, resiliency, and bold character of the Signal soldier.  Gold is emblematic of excellence and a job well done.  The seven orange lightning flashes outlined white stand for the unit’s numerical designation in traditional Signal Corps colors.  The blue alludes to the global atmosphere, from the Atlantic to the Pacific, from the Caribbean Sea to the Bearing Sea, through which communications of the Command must operate.  The small black shield charged with the four pointed star represents the major global directions, guidance, and the unit’s impact to global network operations from the CONUS Power Projections Platform.  Black and white highlight the night and day, around the clock mission of the unit.  

         Background:   The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved on 13 January 2009.   (TIOH Dwg. No. A-1-990) 

 

COMBAT SERVICE IDENTIFICATION BADGE:  A silver color metal and enamel device 2 inches (5.08 cm) in height consisting of a design similar to the shoulder sleeve insignia.

 

Distinctive Unit Insignia.  Description:   A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height consisting of a dark blue disc bearing seven silver lightning flashes radiating from behind a silver eagle displayed between an orange motto scroll bearing in silver letters the words “DIFFICILE EST SUMMISSO ESSE” enclosing the base from wing tip to wing tip.

        Symbolism:   Orange and white (silver) are the colors associated with the Signal Corps.  The blue refers to the atmosphere through which it must operate from the Atlantic to the Pacific Oceans and from the Caribbean Sea to the Bearing Sea.  The eagle suggests vigilance and dedication to duty and country.  The seven lightning flashes refer to the unit’s mission of communication and to its numerical designation.

         Background:   The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 9 April 1982.
