Distinctive Unit Insignia.  Description:   A silver color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height upon a maroon cross couped a silver saltire above a green scroll with the motto “IN CRUCE VINCAM” in silver lettering.

        Symbolism:  Maroon and white are the colors of the Medical Department.  The functions of the Hospital are indicated by the two crosses, the universally accepted symbol of the medical profession; the numerical designation being indicated by the saltire forming the Roman “X” (10).  The green of the motto’s scroll symbolizes the green of the fields.  The motto translates to “I Shall Conquer By The Cross” and is intended as inspirational in nature and refers to the martial aspects of the Hospital.

         Background:   The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 10th Field Hospital on 19 February 1943.  It was rescinded on 15 December 1960.  The insignia was reinstated and redesignated for the 10th Evacuation Hospital on 10 April 1968.  It was redesignated for the 10th Combat Support Hospital on 20 April 1973.  It was redesignated for the 10th Surgical Hospital (Mobile Army) effective 16 April 1983.  The insignia was redesignated effective 16 December 1992, with the description updated, for the 10th Combat Support Hospital.
