Shoulder Sleeve Insignia.  Description:   A yellow rectangular shield-shaped device edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) inch black border, the overall dimensions 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in height and 2 1/8 inches (5.40 cm) in width, six scarlet horizontal stripes surmounted by a black lion rampant.

        Background:  The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved 11 March 1975.

 

 Shoulder Loop Insignia. Description:   A gold color metal and enamel insignia 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall, consisting of a shield divided horizontally into two equal halves red over yellow, the lower half bearing a gold demi-sun in splendor surmounted by a gold bear on a green mound.  Attached below the shield an arced red scroll inscribed “LOS ANGELES USD” in gold letters.

        Background:  The shoulder loop insignia was originally approved 20 November 1931.  It was amended on 10 May 1976 to add a motto scroll.
