Description

A Gold metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Azure, in chief a battering-ram Or.

Symbolism

The shield is blue for Infantry.  The battering-ram represents the power of the tank as a break-through weapon.

Background

The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 423d Infantry Regiment on 18 June 1935.  It was redesignated for the 423d Regiment on 1 June 1961.
