Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description

A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height consisting of a wheel, the hub cap blue rimmed gold and the tire brick red, the lower part of the tire inscribed “NEVER FAIL” in gold letters; surmounting the wheel above the inscription a gold capstan bound with a gold cable.

Symbolism

The colors brick red and golden yellow are used for the Transportation Corps. The capstan is a revolving drum much used, especially on ship board, for moving heavy weights by means of traction. It stands for the loading and unloading of cargo at Transportation Water Terminals. The wheel refers to the Battalion’s function of operating Inland Terminal transfer points.

Background

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 2 February 1968.
