Description

On a disc Azure, in base a globe Or gridlined of the field, overall a winged sword point to base, wings in lure, Argent detailed Gris, hilted Gules, the sword tip emitting two lightning flashes in chevron of the second, all within a narrow Red  border.

Attached above the disc, a Yellow scroll edged with a narrow Red border and inscribed “ALERT  REACT  SECURE” in Red letters.

Attached below the disc, a Yellow scroll edged with a narrow Red border and inscribed “823D BASE DEFENSE SQUADRON” in Red letters.

Symbolism

Ultramarine blue and Air Force yellow are the Air Force colors.  Blue alludes to the sky, the primary theater of Air Force operations.  Yellow refers to the sun and the excellence required of Air Force personnel.  The wings represent mobility and rapid deployment, while the sword depicts strength and armament.  The globe signifies the worldwide mission and deployment of the unit.  The lightning flashes are indicative of fast strike capabilities.
