A vertical rectangular shield-shaped embroidered item edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) white border, the top arched inwardly on each side, coming to a point at the center 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height and 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width overall blazoned as follows: Sanguine, a representation of the San Jacinto Monument upon a mullet radiated, eight (8) rays downward, four (4) and four (4), Argent.
The monument represents the San Jacinto monument, a Houston landmark. The star and rays allude to the academic excellence.
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 26 February 1975. It was amended to add a symbolism on 14 November 1991, currently amended to update the manufacturing drawings, and correct an error in the description on 17 July 2014. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10J-233)
