Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description
On a red disc 3 inches (7.62 cm) in diameter overall, a white horseshoe bearing the inscription “CENTRAL MISSOURI STATE” in red letters 5/16 inch (.79 cm) in height, the horseshoe detailed black and enveloping a brown mule’s head couped at the neck, highlighted white and detailed black.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was authorized 13 November 1969. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-212)

Description
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a red disc enclosed at top and sides by a silver horseshoe inscribed “FIGHTING MULES” in black letters; overall a torch with black handle enflamed silver bearing a kicking silver mule..

Symbolism
Red and black are the school colors. The horseshoe and kicking mule represent the school’s mascot and spirit. The torch symbolizes knowledge and leadership.
