Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
Centered on a yellow disc with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) blue border, 3 inches (7.62 cm) in diameter overall, a gold brown mountaineer detailed brown in front of a blue mountain range issuing from base and below the semi-circular inscription "WEST VIRGINIA" at top in blue letters 5/16 inch ( .79 cm) in height.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was authorized 1 May 1985. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-2)




Shoulder Loop Insignia


Description/Blazon
A silver color metal and enamel shield and scroll 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall, the shield divided into a yellow enamel upper portion with 13 silver radiating rays and the lower portion a dark blue stylized mountain, overall a silver mountaineer grasping a rifle. Attached below the shield a silver scroll inscribed "SPIRTUS MONTIUM" in dark blue letters.

Background
The shoulder loop insignia was originally authorized 4 January 1954. It was amended to change the coloring of the base metal from gold to silver and update the description and symbolism of the new design on 14 October 1976.
