Shoulder Sleeve Insignia


Description/Blazon
On a yellow triangle point up, a white demi-sun with yellow and white rays throughout issuing from a row of maroon hills surmounted by a line of yellow pine trees issuing from base overall a yellow sword with maroon hilt point up. Attached above the triangle and to the sides a yellow scroll inscribed "CENTRAL" to dexter and "MICHIGAN" to sinister in maroon letters 5/16 inch (.79 cm) in height all within 1/8 inch (.32 cm) maroon border. The overall dimensions are 3 1/2 (8.89 cm) in height and 3 5/16 (8.41 cm) in width.

Symbolism
Yellow and maroon are the school colors. The sword symbolizes strength, valor and military training. The sun and hills are adapted from the State Seal of Michigan and allude to the location of the University. The trees suggest the school campus.

The shoulder sleeve insignia was authorized 05 April 1990. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-60)




Shoulder Loop Insignia


Description/Blazon
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height consisting of a shield blazoned: "Per fess wavy Or and Sanquine (Maroon) a barrulet gemel wavy abased Or, above a lamp in base of the like flamant to the barrulet, issuing from fess a demi-sun Argent rayonne Or, overall a sword of the like handle Argent." Attached below the shield a Gold scroll inscribed ?KNOWLEDGE FOR DEFENSE" in Maroon letters.

Symbolism
Yellow (gold) and maroon are the school colors. The demi-sun and waves are adapted from State Seal of the Michigan. The sword represents strength, valor and military training and the lamp of knowledge suggests academic discipline gained through the ROTC Program.

Background
The shoulder loop insignia was originally authorized 8 March 1990.
