Description/Blazon

On a disc Azure, a mullet of four points as a compass Gules, surmounted by a globe entoured by a gear wheel of twelve cogs Argent (Silver Gray), of the field and gridlined Argent (White), emitting from behind four lightning flashes saltirewise Or; all within a narrow border Yellow.

Attached below the disc, a Blue scroll edged with a narrow Yellow border inscribed "578TH SOFTWARE MAINTENANCE SQ" in Yellow letters.


Symbolism

Ultramarine blue and Air Force yellow are the Air Force colors. Blue alludes to the sky, the primary theater of Air Force operations. Yellow refers to the sun and the excellence required of Air Force personnel. The four pointed star represents the directional support of the avionic and ground systems. The cog wheel represents the skilled software maintenance and engineering support responsibilities of the Squadron. The globe represents the worldwide reach of the unit. The lightning flashes represent the sustainment of constant global communications provided by the Squadron.
