Description/Blazon

Sable, a globe throughout Azure gridlined Argent superimposed in dexter chief by a gauntlet bend wise of the third (Silver Gray) highlighted of the like and of the first four lightning flashes radiating from dexter base to sinister chief Or, a contrail emitting from dexter arcing to sinister ending in a flight symbol White; all within a diminished border of the fourth.

Attached below the shield, a White scroll edged with a narrow Yellow border and inscribed "NATIONAL SECURITY SPACE INSTITUTE" in Blue letters.


Symbolism

Ultramarine blue and Air Force yellow are the Air Force colors. Blue alludes to the sky, the primary theater of Air Force operations. Yellow refers to the sun and the excellence required of Air Force personnel. The globe alludes to the mission of influencing space power from the heavens. The gauntlet and lightning flashes represent the four mission areas of space in the 21st Century. The flight symbol and contrail refer to the worldwide contributions of space control, force enhancement, application and space support.
