A Gold color metal and enamel shield shaped device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Per bend sinister Gules and Vert a bend sinister surmounted by a sword point to base and between a crown to dexter and three fleurs-de-lis one and two all Or. Attached above the shield, a White scroll inscribed "LONG KNIVES" in base metal letters.
Red and green are the school colors. The shield is red and green and represents the flag of the State of Virginia under whose authority George Rogers Clark's Regiment was formed. The crown signifies the opposing British Forces Clark fought while trying to secure the safety of the frontier. The sword symbolizes the surrender of British forces at Fort Sackville and the nickname of Clark, "Long Knife," thus the long knives. The three fleurs-de-lis represent the three French settlements of Cahkia, Kaskaskia, and Vincennes captured by Clark from the British.
The shoulder loop insignia was approved 20 July 2007.
