390TH CIVIL AFFAIRS GROUP
Distinctive Unit Insignia
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/4 inches (3.18cm) in height overall consisting of a scarlet enamel disc bearing at center left a white enamel Liberty Bell, details in gold, surmounted overall at lower right a blue enamel rider and horse with details in gold, all above a semi-circular blue enamel scroll inscribed "EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED" in gold letters.
The horse and rider depict Caesar Rodney going to the First Continental Congress to cast the deciding Delaware vote for independence for freedom from British tyranny symbolized by the Liberty Bell. The motto "EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED" alludes to the 390th Civil Affairs Group's readiness to protect the peace. Red, white and blue are the colors of the National flag.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 9 Nov 1976.
