Distinctive Unit Insignia

A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86cm) in height overall consisting of a white enamel open scroll between a vertical gold sword to the left and a vertical gold quill to the right surmounting the scroll and extending beyond at top and base a gold lightning flash point in base issuing a red enamel flame over the hilt of the sword and the pen of the quill, all within a continuous purple enamel scroll arced below the flame in base, passing behind the sword, lightning flash and quill at the top, and inscribed on the lower portion "ADVISE ASSIST GUIDE" in gold letters.

Purple and white are the colors used for Civil Affairs. The sword, open scroll and quill represent the organization. The flash and fire are the symbols of Prometheus, the Greek Titan, who, when mankind was periled, established order, an act symbolizing the organization's overall mission. The flash also denotes the efficient services provided by the unit in the many processes involving the organization's capabilities.

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 31 Mar 1971.
