Distinctive Unit Insignia

A gold color metal and enamel insignia 1 1/8 inches (2.86cm) in height overall, consisting of a black compass rose charged with a gold sword; the primary compass points connected by four arcing blue electrical flashes, all on a gold sphere and encircled at top by a scroll inscribed "COMBAT POWER FOR LEADERS" in gold letters, and enclosed at bottom by a wreath of laurel in shades of light brown.

The black compass rose alludes to strategy, stability, worldwide scope and day/night capabilities. The gold sword represents military strength and military preparedness. The blue electrical flashes encircling the compass rose suggest the organization's mission. The gold laurel wreath symbolizes excellence and high ideals. The red scroll signifies leadership, devotion to duty and a commitment to total readiness.

The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved on 7 Nov 1988. It was amended on 20 Jul 1989 to revise the description and symbolism.
