Symbolism
Ultramarine blue and Air Force yellow are the Air Force colors. Blue alludes to the sky, the primary theater of Air Force operations. Yellow refers to the sun and the excellence required of Air Force personnel. The background signifies the unlimited operational responsibility of being prepared at all times to strike a decisive blow against aggression. The capacity for destructive retaliation is represented by the lightning flash shattering the bend which is symbolic of aggression. The flash of lightning which ends in the heart of an atomic symbol denotes the means by which this vigilant force for peace keeps the world free.
