Symbolism

Ultramarine blue and Air Force yellow are the Air Force colors. Blue alludes to the sky, the primary theater of Air Force operations. Yellow refers to the sun and the excellence required of Air Force personnel. The outer ring encircling the emblem symbolizes the silos housing the ICMB leg of the nuclear triad. The atomic emblem alludes to the defenders performing the nuclear mission. The sword represents the deployment of justice and promise of security. The lightning bolts are symbolic of the command’s six wings associated with the nuclear global strike mission. The Latin motto, “IN EXTREMIS,” translates to “To the Point of Death” in English.
