Symbolism

Ultramarine blue and Air Force yellow are the Air Force colors. Blue alludes to the sky, the primary theater of Air Force operations. Yellow refers to the sun and the excellence required of Air Force personnel. The stylized American bald eagle symbolizes virtue and the spirit of a free nation. The lightning flash contrailing to the globe signifies the upgraded sensors and mission systems capability of the enhanced Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) and its continued dominance of battlefield situational awareness. The radio waves represent the frequencies reflected back and forth from the earth to the ionosphere, which are intercepted, processed and exploited by the E-3 Sentry's airborne radar to enhance the warfighter's vision of the ever evolving battle space. The globe with land masses over the bend represents the airborne command and control with its abilities to operate in daytime and nighttime environments.
