Description/Blazon

On a disc Azure, a sword erect hilt and handle Proper garnished Or, blade entwined by a snake Argent, detailed and langued Sable, eyed of the second, between in dexter a cross-couped Gules and in sinister a lion rampant Yellow detailed Gold Brown, armed and langued Scarlet, all within a diminished bordure Black.

Attached below the disc, a Yellow scroll edged with a narrow Black border and inscribed "96TH MEDICAL OPERATIONS SQ" in Black letters.


Symbolism

Ultramarine blue and Air Force yellow are the Air Force colors. Blue alludes to the sky, the primary theater of Air Force operations. Yellow refers to the sun and the excellence required of Air Force personnel. The sword and snake combined is symbolic of the unit's military and medical mission. The lion represents courage, and the red cross signifies the healing art of medicine.
