Symbolism

Ultramarine blue and Air Force yellow are the Air Force colors. Blue alludes to the sky, the primary theater of Air Force operations. Yellow refers to the sun and the excellence required of Air Force personnel. The olive branch symbolizes the peace the unit strives to maintain through deterrence. The atomic symbol indicates the unit's peaceful purposes. The mushroom cloud represents the awesome destructive power of nuclear weapons in modern warfare. The lightning bolt separates the opposing forces. The Latin motto, "DETERRERE PER VIM," translates to "DETERRENCE THROUGH POWER" in English.
