Description/Blazon

Azure, beneath six mullets arced in chief Argent, a cross couped close Gules, surmounted by a vol displayed Or, overall a sword point to chief steeled of the second, guard and pommel of the fourth, handled Gold Brown, the blade wrapped by a serpent of the last, all within a diminished bordure Yellow.

Attached above the disc, an Ultramarine Blue scroll edged with a narrow Yellow border and inscribed "55 AEROSPACE MEDICINE SQ" in Yellow letters.

Attached below the disc, an Ultramarine Blue scroll edged with a narrow Yellow border and inscribed "SEMPER AD SUMMUM" in Yellow letters.


Symbolism

Ultramarine blue and Air Force yellow are the Air Force colors. Blue alludes to the sky, the primary theater of Air Force operations. Yellow refers to the sun and the excellence required of Air Force personnel. The red cross represents the charge of "Do No Harm." The gold wings signify the Air Force flyer. The central symbol of the snake wrapped around a sword alludes to the Rod of Aesculapius. The six stars to chief are significant of the elements of flight medicine
