On a disc Vert, a lightning flash bendwise sinister throughout Or surmounted by a knight's helmet Sable, garnished Silver Gray and plumed Argent, all within a narrow border Yellow.

Attached below the disc, a Green scroll edged with a narrow Yellow border and inscribed "49TH FIGHTER TRAINING SQ" in Yellow letters.

Ultramarine blue and Air Force yellow are the Air Force colors. Blue alludes to the sky, the primary theater of Air Force operations. Yellow refers to the sun and the excellence required of Air Force personnel. The helm embodies the discipline, courage, and integrity of the knight and reflects the formation of those characteristics by the Squadron in development of fighter pilots. The lightning flash represents the striking power of today's Air Force and recalls the unit's heritage by symbolizing the first aircraft used by the unit, the P-38 Lightning.
