A silver color enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height consisting of a maroon cross in front of a silver star above a green scroll with the motto "IN CRUCE GLORIA" in silver letters.
The maroon and white (silver) are the colors of the Medical Department. The functions of the organization are symbolized by the maroon cross, the universally accepted symbol of the medical profession; the state of activation, Texas, being indicated by the silver star of that state. The green motto scroll represents the green fields. The motto which translates to "I Glory in the Cross" is expressive of the feelings of the personnel in the performance of their duties.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 19 January 1943.
